Welcome to our first newsletter. Improving Education Inc. was founded in March, 1998. Our mission is to improve public K-12 education system through research and service. All research programs will be designed to provide benefit to the participants while collecting important data to help us to better understand how to successfully improve our educational system. This report will introduce our board of directors, describe the accomplishments of our past year, and our future plans

Board of Directors

Susan Levene has twelve years of industry experience in designing and optimizing manufacturing equipment and processes that efficiently produce consumer food products that are sold and distributed throughout the nation. She has volunteered her time to tutor and mentor disadvantaged youth for over 15 years in several school and community run programs. She has a M.S. from Yale University and B.S from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her industry experience, excellent academic qualifications, and dedications to our at-risk children, will enable this program to develop creative and successful methods to enable all of our students to succeed.

Eric Schade has ten years experience doing government research. He is currently the President a small engineering firm doing contract engineering. His experience will aid us in developing proposals, securing funding and running a small corporation.

Dorothy Kelly has fifteen years of industry experience in the field of environmental protection management. She was an advisory board member for the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis. She was a project leader for President Clinton's Council for Sustainable Development. She is currently serving her second term as a Darien CT Legislative Representative. She is also the volunteer director of her local. elementary after school enrichment program which has over 295 children participating. Her experience will help us shape our research and secure funding.

Accomplishments 

1998 has been an exciting year. We have successfully navigated the path to starting a nonprofit corporation, and are ready to begin the next big task of fundraising. We would like to take a few moments and recognize the hard work of the past year.

Thanks to the diligence and generosity of Susan Levene, Improving Education Inc. is officially a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation.

Our website currently features a description of our proposed first program Success for all Students, as well as information about our organization.

Future Plans

In order to meet our goal of starting research in 1999, we need to raise funds to support our program, Success for all Students. In order to accomplish this, we are targeting several areas of funding:

• Grant proposals to any appropriate government RFP's
• Grant requests to private foundations
• Sponsor inquiries to local business and citizens
